About the game
January 1890. Five million dollars of your own money, an office in the state you choose, and nobody on the payroll. The electric age is beginning, and the men who will own it have not yet been decided.
You found a company and hire scientists, engineers, draughtsmen and accountants. You stake your money at the bench and prove each invention in a field trial before a rival does, then file the patent. You build works on land you buy and sell what they make at whatever price the market will pay. The banks you borrow from remember how you treated them.
Features
- The Laboratory. Research technologies in electrical, electronics, materials, chemical, manufacturing, transport and computing. Each invention has to pass a field trial, which costs money and engineers’ time.
- The Patent Desk. File each patent application by hand until you hire a clerk to do it.
- The Drawing Office. Design power lines, power stations, locomotives, motor cars, airships, airliners and ships part by part. Each part changes performance and unit cost.
- The Big Board. Trade shares in the great companies of the day on the New York exchange, quoted in eighths of a dollar. Survive the panics and take your own company public.
- The Houses. Morgan, Standard Oil, Edison, Westinghouse, Carnegie, the Patent Office and the Federal Government remember how you treat them. Some will take you to court.
- The century. History follows its real course unless your decisions change it. The New-York Courier, then radio and television, report every year of the campaign.
- The country. The map is the United States. Towns grow with each census, and the lights come on where electricity reaches.
